WOODWORK (Brooklyn, NY)
We are addicted to Woodwork. The bar is so close to our place, we just end up going there once a week if we’re not traveling. This time we tried their Cuban sandwiches. The bread was fresh, the pickles were sweet, the roast pork was juicy and tender, and the mustard was spicy. Not totally authentic, but who cares — it was delicious. Oh, and so far, everything we’ve ever ordered comes with those tiny, tasty pickles. We may be the only people who come here specifically to eat dinner.

CHIMU (Brooklyn, NY)

Our friends Jon and Marissa wanted to meet us for dinner, so we chose a place by their apartment called Chimu. I’ve seen this place for years — it’s right next to Union Pool — but I’ve never been able to try it until now. I had the Lomo Saltado — skirt steak, white rice, onions, tomatoes and peppers served over French fries (which was a nice surprise) — and  Jesse had the Jalea, mixed fried seafood “Peruvian-style” with salsa criolla.

I loved my entree (it was even great the next night as leftovers, with a fried egg), and though Jesse enjoyed his meal, he thought it would be more “mixed seafood” — less squid and more shellfish. We’d definitely go here again to try other dishes.
